Our Story
Founded in 1990, SeedSpider has grown out of a culture of innovation ...
The SeedSpider team is made up of some of the smartest, creative engineers on the planet. We work alongside leading growers to understand the issues facing the agricultural industry and are focused on developing smart, common-sense solutions that will increase efficiencies and help preserve the world’s most precious resources.
Forward thinking
Our first iteration was a self propelled, autonomous robot which could be driven by an operator using a simple console, but it missed the mark. As we engaged with innovative and experienced growers, they expressed a preference for a tractor mounted solution. So, we redesigned it.
Adapting
We put our machine into tomatoes, and within days achieved weeding performance that piqued the interest of tomato growers. A couple of weeks later we developed a long blade driven by two arms for reaching under the tomato canopy when the plants grew bigger. We love new challenges.
Novel
We’re not afraid to think outside the box and try something new. We do this best when working with customers, where we spend time understanding their biggest challenges and coming up with creative solutions … usually utilizing our existing tools in weird and interesting ways.
Re-imagining
We are incredibly fortunate to have leading growers around the world allow us to take an unproven and ‘quite different’ machine into their fields, day after day which has allowed us to re-imagine the way smart technologies can transform farming practices.
Continuously improving
Since that first day we’ve added all sorts of improvements and innovations, an optional hydraulic generator, upgrading to more powerful 3D arm motors, refining cutting blade designs, iterating all aspects of the machine, and all the while collecting more and more data to refine our machine learning models.
